Let \(\mathbb B_n\) be the open unit ball of \(\mathbb C^n\) and \(H\) denote the algebra of holomorphic functions on \(\mathbb B_n\). The Volterra type integration operator \(J_b\), induced by a function \(b \in H\), is given by \[ J_bf(z)=\int_0^1 f(tz)Rb(tz)\frac{dt}{t}, \] where \(f \in H\) and \(Rb\) is the radial derivative of \(b\): \[Rb(z)=\sum_{k=1}^n z_k \frac{\partial b}{\partial z_k}(z),\quad z=(z_1, z_2, \dots, z_n) \in \mathbb B_n.\] A fundamental property of the operator \(J_b\) is the following basic formula: \[ R(J_bf)(z)=f(z)Rb(z),\quad z \in \mathbb B_n. \] In the present paper, the authors characterize the boundedness of \(J_b\) from the weighted Bergman space \(A^p_\alpha\) to the Hardy space \(H^q\) on the unit ball \(\mathbb B_n\) for all possible ranges \(0<p,q<\infty\) and \(\alpha>-1\). A partial solution to the case \(n=1\) was previously obtained by \textit{Z. Wu} [Sci. China, Math. 54, No. 11, 2487--2500 (2011; Zbl 1264.47039)]. The authors solve the case \(0<q<\min\{2,p\}\) left open there and extend the results to higher dimensions. Their tools involve area methods from harmonic analysis, Carleson measures and Kahane-Khinchine type inequalities, factorization tricks for tent spaces of sequences, as well as techniques and integral estimates related to Hardy and Bergman spaces. Some remarks on \(J_b\) acting between Hardy spaces and acting from Hardy to Bergman spaces are given in the last part of this paper.
