Introducing properly the notion of skew surfaces as objects in Riemannian spaces of constant curvatures has as a consequence the conclusion that they coincide with surfaces for which the differences between their principle curvatures are constant. Such surfaces appear quite naturally in various scientific fields like optics, quantum mechanics, membrane theories, etc. Actually, for the rotational surfaces in this class the authors provide also their alternative characterization as critical points of a variational problem for a special kind of curvature energy. These surfaces are illustrated via nice graphics.
