Let \(f\) be a Hecke cusp form with even weight \(k\ge 2\) for the group \(SL_2(\mathbb Z)\). Let \(\chi\) be a primitive character modulo \(q~(q\in\mathbb Z^+)\) and \(L_f(s,\chi)\) the L-function of \(f\) with \(\chi\). In this article, the author gives an asymptotic formula for the square sum \(S=\sum_{\chi}|L_f(1,\chi)|^2\), where \(\chi\) runs all over primitive characters modulo \(q\). The main result is as follows: \[S=\frac{90}{\pi^4}L_{f\times f}(2)q\prod_{p|q}(1-c_f(p)p^{-2}+p^{-4})(1-p^{-2})^2(1-p^{-1})^2+O_{f,\epsilon}(q^{1/2+\epsilon}).\] Here \(L_{f\times f}(s)\) is the Rankin-Selberg \(L\)-function and \(c_f(p)=\alpha_f^2(p)+\alpha_f^{-2}(p)\) is a complex number with \(|\alpha_f(p)|=1\) and \(p\) are prime numbers dividing \(q\).
