Given an algebraic first-order differential equation, a natural question is whether it has a general solution which is an algebraic function, and in particular to bound the degree of such a general solution in terms of the degree of the differential equation. Such a bound has been given in the case of autonomous equations [\textit{J. M. Aroca} et al., in: Proceedings of the 2005 international symposium on symbolic and algebraic computation, ISSAC'05, Beijing, China, July 24--27, 2005. New York, NY: ACM Press. 29--36 (2005; Zbl 1360.68913)]. In this work an equivalence relation among first order differential equations is defined in terms of Möbius transformations, and uses this notion to obtain obtain a bound on the degree of algebraic solutions of non-autonomus differential equations which are in the `autonomous class', that is equivalent to an autonomous equation under the above equilence relation.
