Let \(P\) and \(Q\) be projections on a Hilbert \(C^*\)-module \(H\). Under the orthogonal decomposition \(H=R(P)+N(P)\) raised by the range and the null space of \(P\), the authors provide some interesting results on the \(2\times 2\) matrix representation of \(Q\). They show that \(Q\) has the canonical \(2\times 2\) matrix representation if and only if \(P\) and \(Q\) are harmonious (i.e., the closures of the ranges of \(P+Q\), \(P+I-Q\), \(I-P+Q\), and \(2I-P-Q\) are orthogonally complemented in \(H\)). They apply their results to describe Halmos' two projections theorem in terms of harmonious projections; see [\textit{W. Luo} et al., Linear Algebra Appl. 577, 134--158 (2019; Zbl 1432.46045)]. They give a necessary and sufficient condition for the underlying two projections to be harmonious and provide an example to show the non-triviality of their investigation.
