Let \(E\) be a Jordan triple and \(X\) be a ternary \(E\)-module. A conjugate linear mapping \(T\) from \(E\) into \(X\) is called a ternary derivation if \[T(\{a, b, c\})=\{T(a), b, c\}+\{a, T(b), c\}+\{a, b, T(c)\}\] holds true for all \(a, b, c\in E\). Moreover, let \(E\) be a Jordan Banach triple and \(T:E\to E^*\) be a conjugate linear mapping. For a fixed element \(z\in E\), \(T\) is said to be ternary derivable at \(z\) if \[T(\{a, b, c\})=\{T(a), b, c\}+\{a, T(b), c\}+\{a, b, T(c)\}\] for any \(a, b, c\in E\) with \(\{a, b, c\}=z\). For a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\), the triple product \(\{a, b, c\}=\frac{1}{2}(ab^*c+cb^*a)\) induces a Jordan triple structure on \(A\) and makes it a JB\(^*\)-triple. The main purpose of this paper is to study ternary derivable mappings on \(C^*\)-algebras and obtain the following result. Let \(A\) be a unital \(C^*\)-algebra and \(T:A\to A^*\) be a continuous conjugate linear mapping. Then \(T\) is ternary derivable at the unit element of \(A\) if and only if \(T\) is a ternary derivation.
