The authors use the weighted arithmetic mean approach to the arithmetic density concept. If \(f:\mathbb{N}_0\to \mathbb{R}\) is a weight function satisfying certain natural conditions and \(A\subset\mathbb{N}\) then define the lower and upper \(f\)-density of \(A\) as \(\underline{\overline{d}}_f(A)=\overline{\underline{\lim}}_{n\to\infty} F(A,n)\), where \(F(A,n)=(\sum_{j=1}^{n} f(j)\chi_A(j))/\sum_{j=1}^{n} f(j)\). If \(f\) is a weight function, define a new one by the rule \(f^*(n)=f(n)/\sum_{j=1}^{n} f(j)\). Given a weight function \(f_1\) define the sequence of weight functions by \(f_i=f_{i-1}^*\) for \(i\geq 2\). It is proved in the paper that if \(f_1\) can be used to define \(f_1\)-density then each \(f_i\), \(i\geq 2\), can be used to define the \(f_i\)-density and that the summation kernels are interlocking in the sense that \(\underline{d}_{f_i}(A)\leq \underline{d}_{f_{i+1}}(A)\leq \overline{d}_{f_{i+1}}(A)\leq \overline{d}_{f_{i}}(A)\) for each \(i\geq 1\). The main result of the paper says that if \(0\leq \alpha_1 \leq \alpha_2 \leq \alpha_3\leq \dots \leq \beta_3\leq \beta_2\leq \beta_1\leq 1\) are arbitrary sequences of real numbers, then there exists a sequence \(A\subset\mathbb{N}\) such that \(\underline{d}_{f_i}(A)=\alpha_i\) and \(\overline{d}_{f_i}(A)=\beta_i\) for every \(i\geq 1\).
