The main result of the paper states the following. Let \((X,\rho)\) be a doubling metric space and \(E\subset X\). For any \(\alpha\in[0,\dim E]\) there exists a set \(F\subset E\) with \(\dim F=\alpha\), where \(\dim\) is either the local/global Assouad dimension or the lower dimension (see [\textit{D.G. Larman} Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 17, 178--192 (1967; Zbl 0152.24502)]). The proof used some equivalent definitions of these dimensions due to \textit{H. Furstenberg} [Ergodic theory and fractal geometry. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS), published for the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences, Washington, DC (2014; Zbl 1315.37005)]. It is well known that an analogous accessibility property holds for Hausdorff, packing and upper box-counting dimensions, but it does not hold for the lower box-counting dimension.
