The authors give some classifications of biharmonic (as a generalization of a harmonic) hypersurfaces with constant scalar curvature. These include biharmonic Einstein hypersurfaces in space forms, compact biharmonic hypersurfaces with constant scalar curvature in a sphere, and complete biharmonic hypersurfaces of constant scalar curvature in space forms and in a nonpositively curved Einstein space. The results of the paper contain additional cases (Theorem 2.3 and Proposition 2.8) that support the conjecture in [\textit{A. Balmus} et al., Isr. J. Math. 168, 201--220 (2008; Zbl 1172.58004); \textit{A. Balmuş} et al., An. Ştiinţ. Univ. ``Ovidius'' Constanţa, Ser. Mat. 20, No. 2, 89--114 (2012; Zbl 1299.58015)] that a biharmonic submanifold in \(S^{2m+1}\) has constant mean curvature, and two more cases that support \textit{B.-Y. Chen}'s conjecture [Tamkang J. Math. 45, No. 1, 87--108 (2014; Zbl 1287.53044)] on biharmonic hypersurfaces (Corollaries 2.2 and 2.7).
