The authors consider a coherent system which may fail either on the failure of its first component or on the failure of its second component and investigate the renewal of such a system using two cold standby components. The cold standby component immediately starts working at the moment the system fails, and restarts the system with the help of remaining active components. The reliability function of the considered system is obtained and the problem to optimize the reliability is studied. Some stochastic ordering results are presented and some examples are provided.
