Given a positive integer \(n\geq 0\) and a non-negative integer \(d\geq 0\), the authors define and study a new class of bialgebras \[ T^A_\mathfrak{a}(n,d) \subseteq S^A(n,d), \] called generalized Schur algebras, defined as follows. Assume that \(\mathbf{k}\) is a commutative domain of characteristic zero and \(A\) is a unital \(\mathbf{k}\)-superalgebra that is free when viewed as a \(\mathbf{k}\)-supermodule. Let \(\mathfrak{a}\) be a unital subalgebra of the even part \(A_{\overline 0}\) of \(A\), that is a direct summand of \(A_{\overline 0}\), when viewed as a \(\mathbf{k}\)-module. Denote by \(\mathbb{M}_n(A)\) the matrix algebra consisting of all square \(n\times n\) matrices with coefficients in \(A\). The generalized Schur algebra \( S^A(n,d)\) is defined to be the algebra \[ S^A(n,d):=(\mathbb{M}_n(A)^{\otimes d})^{\mathfrak{S}_d} \] of \(\mathfrak{S}_d\)-invariants of \(\mathbb{M}_n(A)^{\otimes d}\) with respect to the usual action of the symmetric group \(\mathfrak{S}_d\) on \(\mathbb{M}_n(A)^{\otimes d}\). Obviously, in case when \(A=\mathbf{k}\), the algebra \(S^\mathbf{k}(n,d)\) is the classical Schur algebra. The generalized Schur algebra \(T^A_\mathfrak{a}(n,d) \) is obtained by making a subtle choice of a full-rank sublattice in the algebra \( S^A(n,d)\), that depends on \(\mathfrak{a}\subseteq A_{\overline 0} \subseteq A \). If \(\mathfrak{a}= A_{\overline 0} \), the algebras \(T^A_\mathfrak{a}(n,d) \subseteq S^A(n,d)\) coincide, but in general the algebras are different. Bases and generators of the algebras \(T^A_\mathfrak{a}(n,d) \subseteq S^A(n,d)\) are presented by authors. They also investigate the simmetricity of the algebras \(T^A_\mathfrak{a}(n,d)\), in relation with the block theory of finite groups. A double centralizer property is established in Section 7 in relation to blocks of Schur algebras. Important examples of generalized Schur algebras are presented in Section 5. The authors also discuss there how the algebras \(T^A_\mathfrak{a}(n,d)\) generalize the Turner double construction.
