The authors present results about Morse-Smale flows with special emphasis on gradient-like flows arising from surface dynamics on three-dimensional manifolds. A subclass of flows for which the invariant manifolds of saddle equilibrium states possess single-valued asymptotics is investigated in detail. They discuss the behavior of separatrices and heteroclinic curves and formulate results on topological equivalence of flows and orientation-preserving periodic diffemorphisms.
