The Mather-Gaffney finite determinacy criterion says that a map germ \(f:(\mathbb{C}^n,0)\to (\mathbb{C}^p,0)\) is finitely determined if and only if it has isolated instability. In this well written paper, the authors explore the Gaffney-Mather criterion for real analytic map-germs. They obtain results in two cases, namely, \(f:(\mathbb{R}^2,0)\to (\mathbb{R}^2,0)\) and \(f:(\mathbb{R}^2,0)\to (\mathbb{R}^3,0)\), as follows: Theorem: Let \(f:(\mathbb{R}^2,0)\to (\mathbb{R}^p,0)\), \(p=2\) or \(3\), be a real analytic map germ with isolated instability. Then \(f\) is finitely \(C^0\)-determined. For the proof, the authors use as the main tool the Lojasiewicz inequality and some of their results on topological triviality of families of map-germs [\textit{J. A. Moya-Pérez} and \textit{J. J. Nuño-Ballesteros}, J. Singul. 6, 112--123 (2012; Zbl 1292.58033)]. No proof or counterexample are known for the converse of this Theorem, for any real analyric map-germ \(f:(\mathbb{R}^n,0)\to (\mathbb{R}^p,0)\).
