The authors address the problem of establishing some basic properties missing in the structure of Musielak spaces for solving elliptic and parabolic problems. It is well known that the framework of Musielak spaces presents many topological difficulties such as reflexivity and separability. The authors consider Musielak spaces generated by Musielak functions on which they only assume a \(\log\)-Hölder continuity condition. The main results in the paper focus on the density of smooth functions, the duality and a Poincaré-type inequality. The proofs rely on the use of approximations by integral operators, including mollifications and rescaling the argument function. At the end of the paper, the authors apply their results to solve a parabolic problem. Solving elliptic partial differential equations in nonreflexive Musielak spaces is a very interesting topic. Many problems and challenges are raised.
