The authors are concerned with the existence of positive solutions to the following boundary value problem on \((0,\infty)\), \[\frac{1}{A}(A\phi(|u'|)u')'=-a(t)u^\alpha,\ t>0,\ \phi(|u'|)u'(0)=0,\ \text{and}\ \lim\limits_{t\to \infty} u(t)=0\tag{1}\] where \(\alpha\geq 0\), \(\phi\) is a nonnegative continuously differentiable function on \([0,\infty)\), \(A\) is a continuous function on \([0,\infty)\), differentiable, positive on \((0,\infty)\) and \(a\) is a nonnegative function satisfying some appropriate assumptions related to the Karamata regular variation theory. The main results improve the result given in [\textit{S. Ben Othman} et al., J. Math. 2013, Article ID 409329, 7 p. (2013; Zbl 1288.34030)], in the sense that they enlarge the class of the nonlinear term \(a(x)\) and they extend the class of operators in the problem (1). By using fixed point methods, potential theory tools and Karamata's regular variation theory, they not only obtain the existence of positive continuous radial solutions of (1) for \(0 \leq \alpha < k_1\), but also give estimates on such solutions.
