The paper under review deals with the study of Riesz \(s\)-equilibrium measures in the real axis in presence of external fields created by fixed charges. More precisely, they denote by \[ U^\sigma_s(z)\equiv \int \frac{d\sigma(x)}{|z-x|^s} \] the Riesz \(s\)-potential, where \(\sigma\) is a measures supported in the real axis and \(s \in ]0,1[\). The authors are interested in equilibrium problems with external fields of the form \[ U^{-q\delta_z}(x)=-q|x-z|^{-s} \, ,\qquad 0<s<1\, , \] where \(\delta_a\) denotes the Dirac delta measures at the point \(a \in \mathbb{C}\), \(q>0\), and \(z \in \mathbb{C}\setminus \mathbb{R}\). They prove existence and uniqueness and nonexistence (under suitable assumptions) for the Gauss variational problems, they describe the expression of the density of the equilibrium measure, and the behavior of the density at the endpoints of the support.
