The weak Galerkin finite element (WGFEM) method employs polygonal and polyhedral meshes, i.e. deliver a sub-optimal rate of convergence for the curved domain by even for high order numerical schemes. In this paper, the WGFEM method is extended to two-dimensional Poisson's equation in the domain with smooth curved boundaries. Defining a modified basis function along curved edges, with boundary matches exactly the boundary, optimal order of convergence are obtained for the higher-order case in the \(L^2\)-norm and the \(H^1\) norm as \({\mathcal O}(h^{k+1})\) and \({\mathcal O}(h^k)\) for curved two-dimensional domain. Numerical examples confirm the expected convergence rates on curved quadrilateral, curved Voronoi, and triangular meshes.
