It is well known that functions \(f\) which induce a nonlinear superposition operator \(F(x) (t)=f(t, x(t))\) degenerate in many important functions spaces whenever one imposes a compactness or Lipschitz condition on the operator \(F\). This shows that it often does not make sense to apply the Schauder or Banach-Caccioppoli fixed point principle in such spaces. In this paper, the author proves similar degeneracy phenomena for nonlinear integral operators of Uryson-Bochner type \[K(x)(t)= \int_\Omega k(t, s, x(t), x(s))\,ds,\] where \(k\) is a Banach space valued kernel function.
