Let \(X\) be a compact subset of \(\mathbb{R}^d\) with \(X\) equal to the closure of its interior. Let \(I\) be an at most countably infinite index set with at least two elements. The author investigates infinite iterated function systems (IFSs) whose maps consist of uniformly contractive and injective similitudes \(\{S_i\}_{i\in I}\). For such infinite IFSs, a mapping \(\pi:I^\mathbb{N}\to X\), commonly called a code mapping, can be defined whose image is a self-similar set \(K\) associated with the infinite IFS: \(K = \bigcup\limits_{i\in I} S_i(K)\). For an \(x\in K\) with \(x = \pi(\mathbf{i})\), \(\mathbf{i}\in I^\mathbb{N}\), the frequency distribution of the digits in the code \(\mathbf{i}\) is studied in the sense of Baire. In particular, it is shown that for a typical (in the sense of Baire) \(x\in K\) the average frequencies of the digits of \(x\) have maximal oscillations. Several applications, for instance, continued fraction digits and Lüroth expansion digits, are presented.
