The paper is concerned with deriving sufficient conditions for asymptotic flocking for a Cucker-Smale system with reaction-type delays. These conditions relate fluctuations in velocity of the initial datum and the length of the delay and provide conditions for monotone decay of the velocity fluctuations towards zero for large times (in other words, the avoidance of long term oscillations in solutions). The approach applied is based on forward-backward and stability estimates and the paper provides cases where there is a sharp bound on the size of the delay to guarantee non-oscillatory solutions.
