The authors consider some implicit methods for scalar conservation laws in one or more spatial dimensions that may also include source terms of different type. They develop implicit notions that are centered around a monotonicity criterion and show the relationship between a numerical scheme and a discrete entropy inequality. They give convergence proofs for three implicit methods and extend the rigorously verified range of applicability of those implicit numerical methods. The numerical examples show the validity and usefulness of the authors' theoretical results. This work is an extension of the first author's previous work [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 43, No. 3, 970--986 (2005; Zbl 1102.35065)].
