\textit{D. E. Littlewood} [The theory of group characters and matrix representations of groups. Oxford: Clarendon Press, London: Oxford Univ. Press (1940; Zbl 0025.00901); Philos. Trans. R. Soc. Lond., Ser. A 239, 387--417 (1944; Zbl 0060.04403)] gives branching rules from certain representations of \(GL_n\) to \(O_n\) or to \(Sp_n\), involving the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. Littlewood's formula only applies to representations corresponding to partitions with no more than \(n/2\) parts. Subsequently, \textit{S. Sundaram} [On the combinatorics of representations of the symplectic group. Cambridge, MA: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mathematics (PhD Thesis) (1986)] and \textit{C. Lecouvey} and \textit{C. Lenart} [Sémin. Lothar. Comb. 82B, 82B.14, 12 p. (2019; Zbl 1436.05128)] generalized this formula, in the case of \(Sp_n\), to all partitions. In this extended abstract, the authors generalize Littlewood's branching rule for \(O_n\) to all partitions with a combinatorial (indeed, subtraction-free) formula. The authors' approach is to use tableaux combinatorics related to crystal bases. First, they construct the spinor models for highest weight \(D_\infty\) representations as sequences of skew semi-standard tableaux. They then give a branching rule from \(D_\infty\) to \(A_\infty\) in terms of a reduction algorithm on these tableaux (Theorem 4.2). Finally, they combine this rule with results from [\textit{J.-H. Kwon}, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 370, 6125--6152 (2018; Zbl 1430.17047)] to obtain a formula for the \(O_n\) branching rule in terms of flagged Littlewood-Richardson tableaux (Theorem 4.10). This is the extended abstract for [\textit{I.-S. Jang} and \textit{J.-H. Kwon}, ``Flagged Littlewood-Richardson tableaux and branching rule for classical groups'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1908.11041}]. In that paper, the authors continue, and use their main results to prove a combinatorial formula for certain Lusztig \(t\)-weight multiplicities.
