The general form of Voronovskaja's theorem for functions defined on an unbounded interval and having exponential growth and the approximation of such functions by linear combinations of positive linear operators are examined. A quantitative variant of Voronovskaja's theorem in this case is also considered. Applications are given for some Szász-Mirakyan, Phillips, Szász and Baskakov operators.
