This article is concerned with the reduced-order finite element method for the hyperbolic type equation by means of the reduced-order of the unknown coefficient vectors of the approximated solutions. The authors establish a reduced-order extrapolated finite element format by means of a proper orthogonal decomposition technique. The existence, stability and error estimates of the approximated solutions are achieved through a matrix analysis approach. Numerical experiments are also included.
