The author chose Prof. Lasota's words ``I believe that mathematics is simply the structure of the world. Not a description of this structure, but the structure itself.'' as a motto and throughout the book, one may feel and understand how much truth is expressed by these words. The book starts with an introduction on the philosophical basis of research, followed by a description of the biological background of red blood cell dynamics, subject of the most important mathematical models studied in the book, including the famous model by Lasota and Ważewska. The reader may become familiar with the most important ideas of chaos theory on the basis of ergodic theory, including a systematic discussion of mathematical theory concerning chaos in systems that maintain measure. The book is closed by the computational verification of a hypothesis by A. Lasota on the existence of nontrivial ergodic properties in the delay differential equation with unimodal feedback modelling erythropoietic response dynamics.
