Let \(\mathcal{G}\) be an \(r\)-discrete Hausdorff groupoid and \(S\) be an inverse semigroup of slices of \(\mathcal{G}\). Then we already know the following two results for any \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\): There is a one-to-one correspondence between \(\mathcal{G}\)-actions on \(A\) and \(S\)-actions on \(A\) [\textit{J. Quigg} and \textit{N. Sieben}, J. Austral. Math. Soc. Ser. A 66, No. 2, 143--167 (1999; Zbl 0992.46051)], and the corresponding crossed products \(A \rtimes \mathcal{G}\) and \(A \widehat{\rtimes} S\) are isomorphic [\textit{N. Sieben}, J. Austral. Math. Soc. Ser. A 63, No. 1, 32--46 (1997; Zbl 0892.46071)]. There is another crossed product \(A \rtimes S\) and an isomorphism of \((A \rtimes E) \widehat{\rtimes} S\) with \(A \rtimes S\), where \(E\) is the set of idempotent elements of \(S\) [\textit{M. Khoshkam} and \textit{G. Skandalis}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 546, 47--72 (2002; Zbl 1029.46082)]. In the present article the author obtains corresponding results on the level of \(K\!K\)-theory. He defines a variant \(\widehat{K\!K^S}\) of \(S\)-equivariant \(K\!K\)-theory and then proves the following results: If \(S\) is a Cantor inverse semigroup embedded in a groupoid \(\mathcal{G}\), then for all \(\mathcal{G}\)-\(C^*\)-algebras \(A\) and \(B\) there is a natural isomorphism \(K\!K^{\mathcal{G}}(A,B) \cong \widehat{K\!K^S}(A,B)\). If \(S\) is the Cantor inverse semigroup of Paterson's groupoid \(\mathcal{G}_S\), then for any compatible \(S\)-Hilbert \(C^*\)-algebras \(A\) and \(B\) there exists an expansion homomorphism \(\widehat{K\!K^S}(A,B) \to \widehat{K\!K^S}(A \rtimes E,B \rtimes E)\) intertwining the corresponding descent homomorphisms.
