A locally convex space \(X\) is said to have the Dunford-Pettis property if every continuous linear operator \(T\colon X\to Y\) into a quasi-complete locally convex space which maps bounded sets into relatively weakly compact subsets of \(Y\) also maps absolutely convex weakly compact subsets of \(X\) into relatively compact subsets of \(Y\). Motivated by the characterisation of the Dunford-Pettis property for Banach spaces in terms of weak null-sequences, a locally convex space \(X\) has the sequential Dunford-Pettis property if, for all weak null-sequences \((x_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}\) in \(X\) and all weak null-sequences \((y_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}\) in its strong dual \(X'_\beta\), we have \(\lim_{n\to\infty} \langle y_n,x_n\rangle =0\). A~locally convex space \(X\) is said to have the Grothendieck property if every weak-\(^*\) convergent sequence in the strong dual \(X'_\beta\) is weakly convergent. For a Tychonoff space \(X\), let \(C_p(X)\) and \(C_k(X)\) denote the space of real-valued continuous functions on \(X\) equipped with the point-wise topology and the compact open topology, respectively. A well-known result of A. Grothendieck states that for a compact space \(K\) the Banach space \(C(K)\) has the Dunford-Pettis property and the sequential Dunford-Pettis property. The authors show that \(C_p(X)\) always has the Dunford-Pettis property and the sequential Dunford-Pettis property. They also present a characterisation of the Tychonoff spaces \(X\) for which \(C_p(X)\) has the Grothendieck property. As an extension of Grothendieck's result, a number of sufficient conditions on the space \(X\) which imply that \(C_k(X)\) has the Dunford-Pettis property and the sequential Dunford-Pettis property are given. For certain classes of Tychonoff spaces \(X\), also a characterisation of the Grothendieck property of \(C_k(X)\) in terms of conditions on \(X\) is provided. The authors exhibit a connection between the Dunford-Pettis property of certain \textit{(LF)}-spaces and the Schur property of their dual spaces. Moreover, they show that for a class of locally convex spaces, the Grothendieck property is equivalent to \(c_0\)-barrelledness.
