    The author studies the numerical solution of an exterior Laplace equation in \({\mathbb R}^3\) with Neumann conditions on a cylindrical periodic boundary that is axially symmetric around the \(z\)-axis. The boundary problem is reduced to a weakly singular integral equation on \([0,\pi]\) with periodic kernel. In Section 3, the author describes the numerical solution of this integral equation, using Dirichlet kernel functions as trial functions and collocation at equidistant points. He shows that the method is nonsaturable and proposes an iteration method that allows for the iterative solution of the resulting discrete linear equation system. In Section 4, the author presents general results about approximation properties of certain classes of function on a real interval. In the final Section 5, the author discusses the problem of determining the eigenvalues of a compact operator on the space of continuous functions on a real interval.
