In the paper the authors consider the equation \[ \varphi_{0}(z,w)(w')^m +\varphi_1 (z,w)(w')^{m-1}+\cdots +\varphi_m (z,w)=0,\tag{\(\ast\)} \] where $\varphi_i (z,w):=\sum_{m(i)=1}^{n(i)} \eta_{i,\mu(i)}(z)\chi_{i,\mu(i)}(w)$ for $i=0,1,2,\cdots,m$ and $\mu(i)=1,2,\cdots,n(i)$ with the following restrictions: all coefficient $\chi_{i,\mu(i)}(w)$ are meromorphic in $\mathbb{C}$, all coefficients $\eta_{i,\mu(i)}(z)$ with $i\neq 0$ are entire functions and all coefficients $\eta_{0,\mu(0)}(z)$ are polynomials. For estimates of meromorphic in $\mathbb{C}$ solutions of $(*)$ the authors make use of the classical Ahlfors-Shimizu characteristic \[ A(r):=A(r,w):=\frac{1}{\pi}\int\underset{D(r)}{\int}\frac{|w'|^2}{(1+|w|^2)^2}d\sigma \] and prove the following Theorem 1.1. For any equation $(*)$ with meromorphic solution $w(z)$ in the complex plane we have \[ A(r)\leq K_1 r^2 \underset{1\leq i\leq m}{\max}\left[\underset{\mu(i)}{\max}M_i^{\mu(i)}(r)\right]^{2/i} \] for $r\rightarrow\infty,r\notin E,$ where $K_{1}<\infty$ is a constant independent on $w,$ $E$ is a set of finite logarithmic measure and $M_{i}^{\mu(i)}(r):=\max_{z\in\partial D(r)}|\eta_{i,\mu(i)}(z)|(r).$ In the paper also there are obtained similar results for solutions of equation $(*)$ meromorphic in some simply connected domain $D$ with smooth boundary $\partial D$ of finite length.
