This is an anouncement of interesting results on the classification of symplectic automorphisms of the four-dimensional torus with positive topological entropy. Recall that such an automorphism is induced by an \(2n \times 2 n\) symplectic integer matrix \(A\) acting on \({\mathbb R}^{2n}\) preserving a symplectic form. Regarding Bowen's formula relating the topological entropy with the eigenvalues of the matrix, symplectic automorphisms with positive topological entropy of the 4-torus can be hyperbolic or partially hyperbolic. Partially hyperbolic automorphisms are determined by integer unimodular matrices with two complex conjugate eigenvalues on the unit circle and two real eigenvalues \(\lambda\) and \({\lambda}^{-1}\) outside the unit circle. The authors first state a result concerning the closure of the unstable (stable) manifold passing through the fixed point: It is a smooth invariant torus of dimension 2 or 4. In the transitive case (dimension 4) they prove that the leaves of its stable foliation are dense. Theorem. Let A be a partially hyperbolic integer unimodular matrix generating a transitive automorphism \(f_{A}\). Then \(f_{A}\) is symplectic on \({\mathbb T}^4\) with respect to a nonstandard symplectic structure. In the case where the closure of an unstable curve is a 2-torus, the characteristic polynomial of the matrix \(A\) is reducible over the field \(Q\) of rational numbers, i.e., it is the product of two monic polynomials with integer coefficients. In particular, the eigenvalues of \(A\) lying on the unit circle are roots of unity of the third, fourth, or sixth degree. Theorem. A decomposable symplectic automorphism of \({\mathbb T}^4\) is conjugate to the direct product of two automorphisms on \({\mathbb T}^2 \times {\mathbb T}^2 \) , which are determined by a hyperbolic matrix \(H\) and a periodic matrix \(P\) such that \(P^k =E \), where \( k \in \{3, 4, 6\}\). The proofs are given in [the authors, ``Geometry of symplectic partially hyperbolic automorphisms on 4-torus'', Dyn. Syst. 35, No. 4, 609--624 (2020; \url{doi:10.1080/14689367.2020.1764503})].
