If \(G\) is any group, \(\mathrm{IA}_Z(G)\) denotes the normal subgroup of those \(\mathrm{IA}\)-automorphisms of \(G\) that fix the center element-wise. The group of central automorphisms (those of \(G\) that act trivially on \(G/Z(G)\)) is denoted by \(\Aut_Z(G)\). One of the results proved by the authors asserts: If \(G\) is any nonabelian \(p\)-group with \(p^3 \leq |G| \leq p^7\) such that \(\mathrm{IA}_Z(G) = \Aut_Z(G)\). Then, the derived subgroup \(G'\) is either cyclic or elementary abelian. Another interesting result that is a general version of a converse to Schur's theorem asserts: Let \(G\) be any group with finite derived subgroup. If \(d\) is the minimal number of generators of \(G/Z(G)\), then \(|\mathrm{IA}_Z(G)| \leq |G|^d.\) One other result in the paper deals with isoclinic \(p\)-groups. It asserts: Let \(G\) be a finite \(p\)-group with \(\mathrm{IA}_Z(G) = \Aut_Z(G)\). If \(H\) is isoclinic to \(G\), then \(\mathrm{IA}_Z(H) = \Aut_Z(H)\) if, and only if, \(|G|=|H|\). Finally, the authors provide examples of mutually isoclinic \(p\)-groups with the above property.
