Starting with a known stochastic differential equation model for the population of phytoplankton under the presence of toxic chemicals, a more definitive criterion is devised and proved to identify whether the phytoplankton will persist or become extinct in the long term. Simulation results are summarized that demonstrate the accuracy of this approach and the ease of applying it.
