Existence of a polyhedron with prescribed development (Q2212379)

This article rectifies a long history of papers not being published, or published in obscure journals, namely the original Yu. A. Volkov's 1955 Ph.D. thesis; the main contribution is using a variational method in proving A. D. Aleksandrov's famous theorem on the existence of a convex polyhedron with pre-specified development. The ramifications of these methods and results are duly referenced and acknowledged.
