The authors analyse 3D electromagnetic scattering by a thin periodic layer of small, perfectly conducting obstacles. Three model configurations are considered in which the periodic layer comprises discrete obstacles or parallel wires or a wire mesh. Leading-order homogenized interface conditions are obtained, and it is realized that the effective behaviour depends strongly on the geometry of the periodic layer.
