In this paper the interior regularity of convex solutions to the Monge-Ampère equation \[ \det D^2u=f \quad \text{in }\Omega \] is considered. Here \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in the Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R}^n\), and \(f\in C^{1,1}(\Omega)\) is a given positive function. The following result is proved. If \(u\) is a convex solution satisfying \[ \sup_{\Omega}|D^2u|\leq \Lambda \] for some positive constant \(\Lambda\), then \(u\in C^{2,\alpha}(\Omega)\) for some \(\alpha\in(0,1)\). Moreover, the \(C^{2,\alpha}\) norm of \(u\) on any compact subset contained in \(\Omega\) is bounded by a positive constant depending only on \(n\), \(\Lambda\), the infimum of \(f\), the \(C^{1,1}\) norm of \(f\), and the distance between the compact subset and \(\partial\Omega\). This result was already known before. This paper provides a new and elementary proof. Observing the linearized equation is divergence free and using the Green function, the authors prove a mean value inequality for the second derivatives of \(u\). Based on this inequality, they can prove the second derivatives of any sequence of convex solutions are uniformly continuous. Then, the \(C^{2,\alpha}\) regularity easily follows. Their proof can be applied to the complex Monge-Ampère equation and the \(k\)-Hessian equation.
