Suppose \(M \setminus L\) is the complement of the Lagrange spectrum \(L\) in the Markov spectrum \(M\). On can note authors' description of the present results: `` In this article, we show the following two results. First, we prove that \(M \setminus L\) is richer than it was previously thought because it contains a Cantor set of Hausdorff dimension larger than \(1/2\) near \(3.7\): in particular, this solves (negatively) Cusick's conjecture. Secondly, we show that \(M \setminus L\) is not very thick: its Hausdorff dimension is strictly smaller than one.'' It is noted that the classical Lagrange and Markov spectra are subsets of the real line related to Diophantine approximation problems. A survey of this paper is devoted to investigations related with such sets. Special attention is given to Cusick's conjecture. Such notions as continued fractions, shift dynamics, and the Lagrange and Markov spectra are briefly considered. Proofs of the main results are given with detail explanations. Also, several auxiliary statements are proven.
