The notion of G-dimension was introduced by \textit{M. Auslander} and \textit{M. Bridger} [Stable module theory. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1969; Zbl 0204.36402)] and later on generalised by \textit{E. E. Enochs} and \textit{O. M. G. Jenda} [Math. Z. 220, No. 4, 611--633 (1995; Zbl 0845.16005)]. Its provides an elegant characterisation of Gorenstein rings in terms of finiteness of homological invariants. Such notion was followed by the introduction of Gorestein injective and flat dimensions motivated by the classical projective, injective and flat dimensions. Here, the authors introduce the notion of \textit{Gorestein flat cotorsion dimension} as a refinement of the Gorenstein flat dimension for complexes over an associative ring. They prove that, unlike the Gorenstein flat dimension, such an invariant behaves as one expects of a homological dimension without extra assumptions on the ring. An important result is that it coincides with the Gorenstein flat dimension for complexes where the latter is finite and for complexes over right coherent rings.
