Let \(A\) and \(B\) be two sets on the plane. Determining the relative position of \(A\) with respect to \(B\) requires to maximize or minimize some expressions depending on some parameters. This optimization can be presented as a so-called \(\Phi\)-function. The authors present the \(\Phi\)-functions for the following situations and sets: non-intersection of a pair of ellipses; intersection of an ellipse and an area bounded by a parabola; inclusion of an ellipse in other ellipse; inclusion of an ellipse in an area bounded by a parabola.
