The paper under review generalizes results of \textit{D. McKinnon} and \textit{M. Roth} [Eur. J. Math. 2, No. 4, 929--959 (2016; Zbl 1412.14016)] on the approximation by rational points of algebraic points on algebraic varieties. Specifically, the earlier results involve ineffective constants that the author makes effective. The author deploys an impressive variety of technical tools to achieve their goals, including adelic metrics on line bundles and a powerful theorem of \textit{G. Faltings} and \textit{G. Wüstholz} [Invent. Math. 116, No. 1--3, 109--138 (1994; Zbl 0805.14011)].
