Let \(V(X)\) denote the free topological space over a Tychonoff space \(X\), in the sense of \textit{S. S. Gabriyelyan} and \textit{S. A. Morris} [Topology Appl. 223, 30--49 (2017; Zbl 1381.46002)], and let \(\text{sp}_n(X)=\{\lambda_1x_1+\dots+\lambda_nx_n : \lambda_i\in[-n,n]$, $x_i\in X$, $i\in\{1,\dots,n\}\}\). The main results of the paper are the following: (1) For a metrizable space \(X\), \(\mathrm{sp}_3(X)\) is Fréchet-Urysohn if and only if \(X\) is compact. (2) For a \(k^*\)-metrizable \(\mu\)-space \(X\), \(\mathrm{sp}_2(X)\) is a \(k\)-space if and only if \(X\) is a \(k_{\omega}\)-space. (3) For a paracompact \(\sigma\)-space \(X\), if \(X\) is a \(k\)-space, then the tightness of \(V(X)\) is countable if and only if the tightness of \(\mathrm{sp}_2(X)\) is countable.
