The Kolmogorov system is the following \[ \frac{d x_i}{d t}=x_i P_i(x_1,\ldots,x_n),\] where \(P_i\) is a polynomial of degree \(d_i\) for \(i=1,\ldots, n\). The authors investigate the case \(d_i=2\) and \(n=3\). First, they show sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of the singular point in the first octant, whose linear part matrix admits \(0\) and a pair of conjugate pure imaginary eigenvalues. Then applying the averaging of the first order, limit cycles bifurcated from that point are beautifully illustrated for several cases.
