If \(\sigma\) is the hyperbolic distance on the unit disk \(\textbf{U}\), then it is well known that an analytic function \(f:\textbf{U}\to \textbf{U}\) does not increase the hyperbolic distance. The author generalizes this result for analytic mappings \(f\) defined on a surface \(\Sigma\) which is equipped with a distance \(d_\Sigma\) generated by the conformal metric on \(\Sigma\) and its curvature being bounded below by a negative constant \(k\). The author proves that if \(-1<\Re f<1\) in \(\Sigma\), then for \(\zeta\), \(\eta\in \Sigma\) \[ \sigma(\Re f(\zeta),\Re f(\eta))\leq -\frac{4k}{\pi}d_\Sigma (\zeta,\eta). \] A similar result is proved for the modulus of an analytic mapping. If \(|f|<1\) in \(\Sigma\), then \[ \sigma\left(|f|(\zeta),|f|(\eta)\right)\leq -k d_\Sigma (\zeta,\eta) \] for \(\zeta\), \(\eta\in \Sigma\).
