Let \(y\) be the study variable defined on a finite population \(\{\Omega_1,\Omega_2,\dots,\Omega_N\}\) of size \(N\) identifiable units with values \(y_i\), \(i \in\Omega\). Let \(x\) be an auxiliary variable, related with \(y\), which can be effectively used to estimate the unknown population mean \[ \overline{Y}=\frac{1}{N}\sum_{i=1}^Ny_i \] of the study variable \(y\). The information on \(x\) can be available on the entire population through knowledge of \(x_i\), \(i \in\Omega\), or its population mean \[ \overline{X}=\frac{1}{N}\sum_{i=1}^Nx_i, \] or on a sample mean from \(\Omega\) when the population information is missing. The authors of the paper describe some existing and introduce new imputation methods and the corresponding point estimators. Bias and mean-squared error of the proposed estimators are established.
