A model of formation of colonies of Escherichia coli bacteria is studied. This consists of three parabolic and one ordinary differential equations for the evolution of concentrations of active and inactive bacteria, a chemoattractant and a nutrient. Steady states of this chemotaxis-reaction system describing colonial patterns are proved to be locally stable. Numerical experiments show that those chevron-like patterns essentially depend on initial nutrient concentrations.
