\textit{B.~Brenken} previously proved in two papers from 2001 and 2004 that, for a von Neumann algebra that can be decomposed into a direct sum of type I factors, a certain class of *-endomorphisms correspond to representations of certain C\(^*\)-algebras associated with (possibly infinite) matrices that arise as the adjacency matrices for directed graphs [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 353, No.~10, 3835--3873 (2001; Zbl 1014.46041); J. Oper. Theory 51, No.~1, 19--34 (2004; Zbl 1064.46037)]. The *-endomorphisms studied by Brenken are, however, required to either be unital (in the 2001 paper) or satisfy a number of restrictive conditions (in the 2004 paper). In the article under review, the author extends the work of Brenken by eliminating the conditions imposed on the *-endomorphisms. The fundamental difference in his approach is that representations of the Toeplitz algebra of a C\(^*\)-correspondence are investigated, whereas Brenken concerned himself with the so-called relative Cuntz-Pimnser algebras.
