The authors consider the half-linear difference equation of the form \[ \Delta(r_n|\Delta x_n|^{p-2}\Delta x_n)+c_n|x_{n+1}|^{p-2} x_{n+1}=0, \qquad p>1. \] By means of the Riccati technique, nonoscillation criteria are established. Examples illustrating these results are given. They show that nonoscillation may happen when \(\sum^{n-1}r_j^{-1}\sum_{j=n}^{\infty} c_j\) is less than the famous lower bound \(-3/4\). Reviewer's remarks: A similar conclusion as in that example follows also from [\textit{P. Řehák}, Fasc. Math. 31, 71--89 (2001; Zbl 0999.39006)]. Further, related results for half-linear difference equations can be found in [\textit{P. Řehák}, J. Difference Equ. Appl. 7, No. 4, 483--505 (2001; Zbl 1009.39012)]. Some of them can be seen as a (partial) discretization of the criteria for half-linear differential equations which substantially improve Moore's result and are in a certain sense non-improvable and are presented in [\textit{N. Kandelaki} et al., Georgian Math. J. 7, No. 2, 329--346 (2000; Zbl 0957.34032)].
