    A map \(L \colon X \to Y\) between two metric spaces is called \(\delta\)-almost bi-Lipschitz (\(\delta \ge 0\)) if there is a constant \(C > 0\) such that \[ \frac{d(x,y)}{C\log(d(x,y) + 1/d(x,y))^\delta} \le d(L(x),L(y))\leq C\,d(x,y) \] whenever \(x,y \in X\) are distinct. The paper proves the following result (Theorem~1.5): Let \(M \ge 1\), \(s > 0\), and \(\alpha,\beta \ge 0\). Suppose that \(X\) is a compact subset of a Banach space \(B\) such that for any \(r > \rho > 0\), the set \(B(0,r) \cap (X - X)\) can be covered by no more than \(M(r/\rho)^s \log(r+1/r)^\alpha \log(\rho+1/\rho)^\beta\) balls of radius \(\rho\) in \(X - X\). Then, given any \(\delta > 1 + (\alpha + \beta)/2\), there exist an \(N\) and a prevalent set of linear maps \(L \colon B \to \mathbb{R}^N\) whose restrictions to \(X\) are injective and \(\delta\)-almost bi-Lipschitz. This extends a similar result for subsets of Hilbert spaces due to \textit{E. J. Olson} and \textit{J. C. Robinson} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 362, No. 1, 145--168 (2010; Zbl 1197.54045)] in which the almost homogeneity assumption is imposed on all balls rather than just those centred at the origin.
