Let \(V\) be a real, \(n\)-dimensional vector space with \(M \subset V\) a lattice. Let \(P \subset V\) be an \(n\)-dimensional polytope, namely the closed convex hull of finitely many points in the lattice \(V\). Let \(\phi\) map the lattice to the complex numbers, and let \(\phi\) be a homogeneous polynomial function of degree \(d\). Given a positive integer \(q\) and any face \(F\) of the polytope, let \(D_{\phi,F}(q)\) be the sum of \(\phi\) over the lattice points in \(qF.\) The authors describe a generating function \(G_\phi(q,y)\) that packages the various \(D_{\phi,F}(q)\) and they show that it satisfies a functional equation that genearlizes both the Ehrhart-Macdonal reciprocity and the Dehn-Sommerville relations. When the polytope has each vertex meeting \(n\) edges, they show how this function \(G_\phi\) can be computed using an analogue of the Brion-Vergne's Euler-Maclaurin summation formula. Additionally, they show that one of their theorems agrees with the representation of the normalized Hirzebruch class of a toric variety studied by \textit{L. G. Maxim} and \textit{J. Schürmann} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 68, No. 12, 2177--2236 (2015; Zbl 1327.14032)]. The paper concludes with several examples of the function \(G_\phi(q,y).\)
