A quantum symmetric pair \((\mathbf{U}, \mathbf{U}^\imath)\) is a quantization of the symmetric pair of enveloping algebras \((\mathbf{U}(\mathfrak{g}), \mathbf{U}(\mathfrak{g}^\theta))\), where \(\mathfrak{g}\) is a semisimple complex Lie algebra, and \(\theta:\mathfrak{g}\rightarrow \mathfrak{g}\) is an involution of Lie algebras. \(\mathbf{U}^\imath\) is called an \(\imath\)quantum group. The main theme of the paper is to continue generalizing constructions and results from quantum groups to the setting of quantum symmetric pairs. The authors investigate \(\imath\)quantum groups at roots of 1, they generalize Lusztig's quantum Frobenius morphism, define modified small \(\imath\)quantum groups and compute their dimension.
