For a positive integer \(m\), the authors present the idea of \(m\)-ideals, prime \(m\)-ideals and their associated types in a semigroup. They establish different characterizations of semigroups via \(m\)-ideals. As a consequence, ordinary ideals and their relevant types differ from \(m\)-ideals and the authors demonstrate their associated types by taking suitable examples on maximal, irreducible and strongly irreducible \(m\)-ideals. They also opine that the introduction of \(m\)-ideals would explore new fields of studies with relevant applications in semigroups. A sufficient number of examples are given to clear the notions as involved in the results proved.
